PhD Student


Soumyajit is a PhD student of Economics with a focus on Labor and Development Economics. Originally form Calcutta; he received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Honors and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in Economics from Visva-Bharati University, India; in 2010 and 2012. He was awarded gold medals twice for his academic excellence in Visva-Bharati University. Strong inclination towards research in applied areas of Development Economics motivated him to engage for a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) degree program of University of Calcutta at the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata. Awarded with M. Phil. degree with Research Fellowship in 2014, he joined the same Institute as a Research Assistant. There he worked with a versatile community of economists, sociologists, demographers, anthropologists, political scientists and historians. Before coming to USA, he was working on a Research Project related to Trade Unions and Collective Bargaining in Urban Labor Markets. In recent times, he received an award for the Best Paper by Young Scholar at the 57th Indian Society of Labour Economics Conference, jointly with Dr. Subhanil Chowdhury.
