Michelle Elizabeth Canaday Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors economics major Michelle Canaday, who died too young after a meteoric rise at PepsiCo. Her co-workers said she was ‘spit and vinegar,’ but she got the job done, had fun, and made it look easy. She was a fierce competitor on the soccer field and the ski slopes when she traveled the state competing in the UNM Corporate Cup with her family. She later switched to snowboarding and spent many weekends racing down the mountains with her friends. She loved to play with her dogs, Max and Leo, whom she called “her boys.” She loved her family and friends and looked forward to her time with her best friends’ children, who called her “Auntie Michelle.”
Undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Economics at UNM who maintain a GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need are eligible for the Canaday Scholarship. Preferences may be given to eligible students who through an essay, demonstrate an interest in the study of health economics and/or examining the economic impacts of substance abuse.
