Preparing for Graduate Studies

Students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Economics should take two semesters of calculus (either Math 162 and 162 OR Math 180 and 181) and Linear Algebra (Math 314). Most graduate programs in Economics (including UNM's) are highly mathematical. You know how economic agents are always maximizing subject to a constraint? Another term for that is "calculus." Because they are so mathematical, PhD graduate courses bear little resemblance to undergraduate courses wherever you go to graduate school and wherever you did your undergraduate work.
