Bobak Khodaie took a position with the firm where he interned, Erik Harrington left for Mexico, Shaina Saint-Lot started a Master's at Cambridge. Thus began the career paths after graduation for three UNM Economics alumni who recently returned to UNM to talk with current Economics majors.

Bobak is now Managing Associate at Capital Strategies, Erik is Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets, and Shaina is Subcontract Manager at Sandia National Laboratories.

Among the career advice they offered:

  • An economics degree qualifies you for many jobs. Look for positions that involve work activities that you enjoy, don't worry about the position title.
  • Learn Excel!
  • Demonstrate that you can recover from setbacks, including on the athletics field, in academics and employment.
  • Demonstrate that you have strong written skills.
  • Do an internship
  • Take advantage of UNM programs that connect you with community members to build your network.

Students were enthusiastic about hearing from professionals in their field. Thanks to the the UNM Alumni Association for organizing the event and bringing the pizza!
