Robert Berrens is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of New Mexico, where he has been a faculty member since 1994, and named a Regents Lecturer (2004-2007). He is former co-editor of Contemporary Economic Policy, associate editor of Water Resources Research, and currently serves on the board of Sustainability. He has served as Department Chair (2008-2012 and 2016-present), Special Assistant to the Dean of Arts & Sciences (2012-2013), Director of UNM’s interdisciplinary Water Resources Program (2013-2016), and been a member of the UNM Budget Leadership Team (2012-present). Teaching interests include: microeconomics, economics of higher education, environmental economics (including non-market valuation), and contemporary water resources issues. He is an environmental economist, with research in: water resources; ecosystem services, biodiversity and endangered species; forest resources; wildfire risk reduction; climate change and environmental policy. He has worked with more than 50 graduate students. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency, US Forest Service, City of Albuquerque, NM Health Policy Commission, and various sources.
