Refat Mishuk

Refat Mishuk is a doctoral student in Economics at the University of New Mexico, where his research focuses on health economics, policy evaluation, and applied econometric analysis. He brings about nine years of professional experience of working in the Central Bank of Bangladesh, where he conducted legal and regulatory analysis, implemented risk-reduction measures for commercial banks, and contributed to financial-sector oversight and policy operations.
At UNM, Mishuk combines research, teaching, and service. He works as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Economics, supporting course preparation and undergraduate instruction, and contributes to applied policy evaluation as a Project Assistant at the Anderson School of Management. He has also taught Macroeconomic Principles and worked as a data specialist supporting community-engaged research through survey data management and transformation.
His academic training spans economics, policy, business administration, and engineering. He holds a PhD candidacy in Economics from UNM, a master’s degree in Policy Economics from Williams College, an Executive MBA from the University of Dhaka, and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Mishuk’s research has been presented at regional and national conferences, including the Eastern Economic Association annual meeting, and recognized through multiple fellowships, scholarships, and teaching awards at UNM. His scholarly work examines healthcare access, physician behavior, and policy impacts using quantitative methods and large administrative datasets. Beyond academia, he remains engaged in student leadership and professional service within the graduate community.
